Terra Nova Productions
Terra Nova began actively working towards sustainable theatre practice and green storytelling with partner organisations from Macau, Hong Kong, Nuuk, Vancouver and London in 2009, trying to figure out how to share artistic collaboration without spending carbon.
As an intercultural organisation we recognise that expertise often lies within indigenous cultures and those in the global south. We see these colleagues experiencing the earliest effects of circumstances they have done little to create. Through the Northern Irish Theatre Association we advocated (with others) for green targets within our sector, during our AD's two stints on NITA's Board.
At Terra Nova we actively review how our governance, communication, food consumption, workshop supplies, travel, construction, touring, and artistic plans can be leveraged to reduce our environmental impact, both in how we run things day-to-day and how we make our projects. Since 2015 we've been testing slow touring principals. We formalised all these thoughts and plans into our first formal environmental policy in 2017, but recognise there is still much to do.
