Bruiser Theatre Company
Bruiser Theatre Company are proud to partner with Green Arts NI in our commitment to
adapting our business practice to ensure long-term environmental sustainability. We recognise
our duty to operate in an environmentally friendly and sustainable manner.
Bruiser’s practice has always included investment in the next generation of NI Artists, and part
of this commitment is assurance that our business be conducted in a manner that supports the
long-lasting health of this planet.
The non-exhaustive list of principles that Bruiser Theatre operates under include:
● Use of EU Ecolabel and FSC certified paper for printing, with focused effort to reduce
paper and ink usage, to strictly when necessary. Including digital record-keeping, and
surveying to reduce paper and ink consumption.
● We have eliminated printed Programmes and we have them available digitally through a
QR code. We also primarily use QR codes to get audience, teachers and students
feedback.
● A reduction in the use of brochures and flyers. Actively encouraging people to visit our
website and social media sites for information rather than relying on printed material.
Bruiser’s Educational resources and teacher packs are available to download online and
optimised for onscreen use.
● In-office practices like mindful use of electronics, recycling, and walking or using public-
transport to attend when possible. In-rehearsal practices like no single-use plastics, car-
pooling, and selecting venues that are accessible by public transport or cycle paths.
● There is an ongoing plan for replacement of lighting stock with more efficient and energy
reducing LED bulbs/lamps.
● Offering Rental of equipment and sharing of resources wherever possible, to reduce
unnecessary production.
● We have a high standard of environmental responsibility through the design choices we
make in set and costume. This includes using environmentally sustainable material, re-
using/recycling previous items, not using fast-fashion items but rather a second-hand
costume policy where appropriate, and a commitment to hiring period costumes.
● Employees are trained in good environmental practice and are encouraged to participate
in all aspects of the environmental policy.
We at Bruiser Theatre Company are passionate about being an active part of the solution to the
Climate Crisis. In accordance with our Environmental Action Plan 2024-26, our key objectives
moving towards a more sustainable future are:
● Reduce the amount of virgin materials used in production sets, props and costume.
● Reduce energy consumption in the lighting of stage productions.
● Redouble efforts to reduce carbon impact of travel for all company activity.
● Continue to reduce unnecessary paper and plastic waste across all company activities.
● Monitor the environmental impact of all company activity.
● Keep our policy informed on the latest environmental issues.
