The MAC
A cultural hub on the heart of Cathedral Quarter, the MAC has become a symbol of a new Belfast, playing a leading role in the city centres regeneration since opening in 2012. Welcoming a diverse range of people, being adopted as a community space for the entire city, the MAC offer an eclectic programme of visual art, theatre, dance, comedy, music, family workshops and lots more.
At the MAC, sustainability is a commitment we're actively pursuing. Through a multifaceted approach, we're tackling energy consumption, waste management, and establishing partnerships to enhance our green credentials. One significant step has been the implementation of an Energy Monitoring System, allowing us to track real-time usage and pinpoint areas for improvement. This technology not only helps us detect anomalies but also assesses the impact of energy-saving measures, like LED lighting and improved insulation.
Collaboration is at the heart of our sustainability journey. We have partnered with academic institutions like Queen’s University Belfast to facilitate master’s work placements, creating space to nurture future leaders of sustainability. Through initiatives like the Green Tourism Award project led by students, we're embedding sustainable practices across all departments. Our partnership with RiverRidge Recycling has further solidified our commitment to zero waste-to-landfill, with materials sorted for recycling and repurposing. We are an active member of Belfast Sustainable Food Partnership, along with Belfast City Council, we will help the City of Belfast reduce its food related greenhouse gases, increase food security, build resilience to changing climate and build back a stronger, greener city and communities.
Looking ahead, we're setting exciting sustainability goals for the future. From upgrading our Green Tourism Award to Silver to integrating green issues into our marketing strategy, we're determined to make sustainability a core aspect of everything we do.
We’re dedicated to the collective progress of Northern Ireland’s Arts sector led by Green Arts NI.
